User is an important object in ICS CUBE. The administrator applies different policies, restrictions and rules to the user. Statistical data is collected for each user, being the smallest entity for reports. Users can be united into groups and for collective application of policies, rules and restrictions for the whole group. Moving a user from one group to another, is easy with drag and drop.
To add users or groups in ICS CUBE, you need to use module “Users” and choose one of the following options:
In the main “Users” window choose “Add”. If the object “User” was chosen, the new form will be opened, in which you should specify name, description, privileges in ICS CUBE of the user, login and password. You can also enter additional information: corporate position, phone number, website, ICQ number, address and a comment. At the minimum you should at least specify the username.
If the object “Group” was chosen, the new form will be opened, in which you can specify the group name, description and comment. At the minimum you should at least specify the name of the group.
In “Users” window choose the “Wizard” button. The new window will be opened offering a choice between creation of a user or a group. If the option “Create user” is chosen, ICS CUBE will ask for user name and description, then - for user privileges (role in ICS CUBE), then for a login and a password, then for a range of IP-addresses for this user (for example, IP-addresses of user workstation, sell phone etc), then for set or multiple sets of rules, that should be applied to this user from rule sets those already created in ICS CUBE (you can also choose not to add any of them), then ICS CUBE will ask you whether you want to create a mailbox for this user, and, at last, to review all data that you entered. If all data is correct, press “Ready” to apply new user configuration, if not - “Cancel” or “Previous” to return to previous steps and modify user settings.
If you chose the “Add group” option, ICS CUBE will ask for group name and description, IP-addresses of devices in this group, then for set/sets of rules, that will be applied to this group from sets already existing ICS CUBE (you can also choose not to apply any of them), and, at last, to review entered data. If all data is correct, you can press “Ready” to apply changes, if not - press “Cancel” or “Previous” to return to previous steps and modify group data.
Only the name of a user or of a group is mandatory field. Also note that if the mailbox you enter for a user cannot be linked to any existing mail domains, ICS CUBE will suggest to add a new mail domain.
Choose “Import” in the main “Users” module. In the drop-down list select the way to import users. There are three ways: from a file, from network and from LDAP/AD.
From file. You can use a file in plain text format with *.txt file extension, containing parameters (name, login, password, IP-address and MAC-address) for import users, all parameters must be separated by commas, and every user must have its own line. For example, “Vasya, vasya, 123, 192.168.34.56 192.168.34.57, 08:ED:B9:49:B2:E5, 16-ED-C9-4D-52-E5”. The form which will open allows you to correct any line in the file being imported before applying the information to ICS CUBE user database.
From network. ICS CUBE will ask you to manually enter IP-addresses of networks or to scan networks attached to interfaces of ICS CUBE. While scanning ICS CUBE will show all active IP-addresses at the current moment, adding names for them names in the format “pcX-Y”, where X has the decimal value of the third byte of IP address of the host and and Y is of the fourth byte. After that you can mark the users you need in the list and press OK to add users to ICS CUBE user database.
From LDAP/AD. A new window will be opened, with mandatory fields: domain controller, domain name, login and password of the domain admin. You can also specify LDAP group, tick the checkbox “Skip empty group” and the checkbox “Secure LDAP”, the last one is for using SSL while exchanging information with the domain (if your domain controller supports this protocol).
After entering all necessary data you will see the list of domain users, grouped by Organization Unit, and also the choice of actions to be applied to a user. Three actions will be available: “Import”, “Synchronize” and “Mail”. When you tick the “Import” checkbox, the name and login of the user will be imported. To synchronize a user or a group the checkboxes “Import” and “Synchronize” must be ticked. Synchronization means that any change of the user or the group in the controller domain tree will be reflected in ICS CUBE automatically. To import a mailbox from domain, all three checkboxes must be ticked. In this mailbox case for the selected user will be created if mail domain with the same name as in Active Directory has already been configured on ICS CUBE.
Users that are imported and synced, will be marked in a list in ICS CUBE interface with a special icon.
After group of users was added by one of the methods described above, it is recommended to set up their authorization.
